The GOVENANT standard: how iii Partners proves results
GOVENANT is iii Partners' proof and governance infrastructure — the mechanism that makes every engagement outcome auditable and citable to a board.
The problem with advisory engagements
Most operational improvement work fails to prove its impact for a simple reason: no baseline was agreed before the work began. Advisors recommend and leave. Agencies deliver a project and invoice. When results are disputed or unclear, there is no agreed starting point to measure from.
GOVENANT solves this by requiring four things before and throughout every engagement.
The four GOVENANT elements
- Baseline agreed before work begins — revenue, EBITDA, headcount, sales cycle and owner dependence are documented and agreed at the start of the diagnostic. No work proceeds without this.
- Fixed scope and change control — the scope of each phase is defined in writing. Changes are recorded, not absorbed quietly.
- Auditable record of completed work — decisions made, work completed and milestones reached are logged throughout the engagement. Management and the board can see what happened.
- Measured financial result — the outcome is compared against the agreed baseline. No result is claimed that has not been measured.
Why this matters to sponsors and operating partners
Independent sponsors, PE operating partners and family offices are accountable to LPs, co-investors and boards for how capital and management attention are deployed. An engagement that cannot prove its result is a liability in that context.
GOVENANT means:
- The board can see exactly what was agreed, what was built and what it produced
- The financial impact is expressed in terms the P&L already uses
- There is no ambiguity about what iii Partners was responsible for
What GOVENANT is not
GOVENANT is not a product, a software platform or a standalone service. It is the internal standard iii Partners applies to every engagement. It is infrastructure for proof — and it is always described after the outcome, the problem and the fix.
FAQ
- Can we receive a copy of the GOVENANT record for our board?
- Yes. The auditable record of scope, decisions, completed work and measured results is available to management and the board as a matter of course — that is its purpose.
- Is GOVENANT something we pay for separately?
- No. GOVENANT is iii Partners' internal operating standard applied to every engagement. It is not a separate product or service.
